A 18 ans et 7 mois, Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing) remporte son premier Grand Prix et devient en Espagne le plus jeune pilote vainqueur de l’histoire de la Formule 1. Le Néerlandais devance les deux Ferrari de Kimi Räikkönen et Sebastian Vettel. Quant aux Mercedes, elles ont abandonné dès le premier tour, suite à l’erreur de Lewis Hamilton, beaucoup trop agressif sur Nico Rosberg, lors d’une tentative de dépassement.
La stratégie de deux arrêts choisie pour Max Verstappen et Kimi Räikkönen a été la bonne pour les deux pilotes face à leur coéquipier Vettel et Ricciardo qui sont passés trois fois par les stands.
Une fois en tête, Max Verstappen a fait preuve d’un incroyable sang froid en résistant, pendant les 20 derniers tours, à la pression mise par Kimi Räikkönen.
