Le pilote français Pierre Gasly quittera la Scuderia Toro Rosso à la fin de la saison pour rejoindre l’écurie Aston Martin Red Bull Racing en 2019. Il remplacera Daniel Ricciardo qui est parti chez Renault.
Le jeu des « chaises musicales » en Formule 1 pour 2019 a débuté début août avec l’annonce de l’arrivée de Daniel Ricciardo au sein du Renault Sport Formula One Team. Puis, le 14 août dernier, Fernando Alonso a décidé de prendre sa retraite. C’est Carlos Sainz Jr., actuel pilote Renault, qui le remplacera chez McLaren. Pierre Gasly récupére donc le baquet de Daniel Ricciardo chez Red Bull.
Pierre Gasly, âgé de 20 ans, formera avec Max Verstappen, 22 ans, un jeune duo de pilotes. Le pilote français originaire de la région de Rouen sera pilote numéro 2. Rappelons que l’année prochaine, les monoplaces de l’équipe Aston Martin Red Bull Racing seront motorisées par Honda.
L’ascension du pilote français est fulgurante. Champion GP2 2016, Gasly a ensuite participé à cinq Grand Prix en 2017 avec la Scuderia Toro Rosso. Depuis le début de la saison en cours, Gasly a marqué 26 points, soit 5 de plus que Romain Grosjean (Haas F1 Team). Hormis, Charles Leclerc (Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team), pilote monégasque, le 3ème pilote français, Esteban Ocon (Force India), compte 29 points au championnat pilotes. Ce week-end, la Formule 1 reprendra ses droits après la pause estivale avec le Grand Prix de Spa-Francorchamps.
